The Duck Duo

“The Duck” - Our complimentary Mid-range Duo

Our first Mid-range Discs
A versatile flyer – cutting through fairways with balance and consistency, and
A fast and nimble flyer – gliding with speed, agility, and finesse

The Discs

For this one, we decided on creating two species of this disc, but it all started with one.

The Mallard

The Overstable Midrange (the "Wind Fighter" with glide)

A versatile flyer – cutting through fairways with balance and consistency

When we started working on this disc, the goal was simple: build on what made the Chickadee special, but take it to the next level. The Chickadee filled a very specific role—a low-speed, overstable, maneuverable disc that you could flick with confidence. But I wanted something that still felt just as good in the hand, maybe even better, and that could handle a stronger grip and more power.

This new design takes inspiration from a larger bird with more momentum, and that character really comes through in the way it flies. It’s still overstable, but it now has an extended glide that lets it push down the fairway before finishing with a dependable fade. That means it’s not just an approach disc—it’s got the distance potential to cover shots in the midrange-to-fairway gap.

Most importantly, it’s a true wind fighter. Whether you’re ripping it off the teepad or dialing in an approach in tough conditions, it’s consistent, accurate, and built to trust. This disc represents a big step forward for us, and I can’t wait to see how people put it into play.  This design eventually went through 8 iterations to become the MD-8 prototype, and has since been optimized for performance and production.  We knew the whole time that we were creating the Mallard, but we didn't realize what was coming next...

The Blue-Winged Teal

The Understable Midrange (first of its kind for Grassland)

A fast and nimble flyer – gliding with speed, agility, and finesse

This is funny to admit, but this disc actually started out as a mistake. One of our MD-8s (our test prototype for the Mallard) was pulled from the machines a little too early, and what came out wasn’t what we had planned. But when we held it, it felt... Good... Really good!  So we tested it, and it flew even better than it felt. That “happy accident” ended up being the spark for something completely new and spontaneous.

From there, we refined the design and leaned into what made it special. The result is our very first understable disc. It has a similar comfortable feel and shape as our new overstable release, but the flight is completely different. Throw it flat and it will turn strong, glide straight, and finish with a clean fade. Put it on a hyzer and it flips up beautifully, carrying forward with an agile, playful flight path that’s just fun to throw.

This disc also represents a lighter, more approachable option in our lineup. If you’ve wanted to throw Grassland Plastics but felt overstability wasn’t your style, this is your disc. It’s creative, versatile, and born out of a mistake that turned into something special.

This disc is really important to us

The Chickadee was the launch point for the Grassland Discs brand — the spark that showed us what was possible.

With the Mallard and the Blue-Winged Teal, we’ve taken that foundation and pushed further. These discs represent not only new shapes of flight, but also progress in design — better balance, refined stability, and performance that expands the ways we can play the game.

What was only a dream a short while ago is becoming real: a full lineup of discs born from our love of the sport and our belief in bringing new technology, quality, and creativity to the course.

For us, these aren’t just discs — they’re part of building something bigger, helping grow the game we love in the communities we care about.

We’ve poured ourselves into the Chickadee, the Mallard, and the Blue-Winged Teal. We love them, and we hope that you will too.
